This place is an excellent fit for a quick layover in Melrose with value for price. The receptionist was very pleasant during check-in, a nice touch. Make sure to double-check your room type ahead of time for specifics.

All staff and facilities were absolutely fantastic. The surrounding area was beautiful and the abbey next door was magnificent. Great place to relax and enjoy some wonderful food. I recommend the 8 course tasting menu for £35 per person. Great value! All in all a lovely place to stay.
No faults whatsoever.

great location but average room experience
We enjoyed the fine river views during breakfast, made each morning good. The staff were attentive and offered really good customer service.
The room we stayed in did not live up to the expectations set by the beautiful surroundings.

Upon arrival, the hotel is set in a stunning location, with the Abbey and the Tweed on the doorstep. A lovely, peaceful location. The hotel staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. On arrival the receptionist greeted with a friendly smile and explained the facilities within the hotel. The room was comfortable but tired and in need of some upgrading - television, bathroom and decoration etc. The pool though small was ideal when it was just the two of us, which happened two out of our three nights. Sadly the 3rd night another couple and a child were in the pool area which made it difficult to enjoy the swim. The bar and waiting on staff were also very attentive with a friendly nature, who couldn't do enough for you. The meal in the Restaurant was nice, though we felt a bit of background music would have been appropriate.
As mentioned earlier the hotel was very impressive upon arrival, however, upon entry the Abbey lounge and main stairway was in need of some tlc. The decoration and furnishings were tired and some of the chairs had stains or holes. A bit of attention would be recommended on cleaning this to brighten up the area. The bedroom was suitable for our stay though found it extrememly warm and kept the windows open our entire stay. The tv and bathroom would benefit from some upgrading. The cloakroom on the first floor was in desparate need of redecoration and not welcoming. The food in the bar was adequate (though the Tweed restaurant was nicer, but more expensive) Drinks and wine were extremely expensive and not much choice in the lower price bracket for wine, concentration spent on the more expensive. We would recommend to friends if they got a good deal but not if paying full price!!

The Abbey Twin/Double Room offers a spacious layout and fine views of the nearby gardens. The hotel's location near historic abbeys makes it a prime spot for those wanting a taste of local history without the hassle of long commutes.
Temperature control in the west-facing Room 222 seemed like a furnace, with only one window barely opening, made nighttime uncomfortable. The restaurant menu lacked options, with no salads available, and felt out of place for warmer weather. Dining times were limited, and the busy status of the hotel seemed disconnected from the actual occupancy levels. There were some small cleanliness oversights I noticed, such as the same tea stains on tables each day and the need for fresh tablecloths during longer stays.

The location was marvellous and peaceful, within walking distance of William Wallace Statue. The room was airy and having central heating, iron/ironing board and a work desk in it was handy. The dining room served plenty of meals for breakfast.

The staff were wonderful - couldn't have been more helpful and often anticipated your request before it was made! The location was great, so beautiful and peaceful. The food was also very nice.
The rooms really need updating - the beds and pillows were uncomfortable and bathrooms also in need of redecorating (new grouting, shower curtains, etc.)

I have stayed here several times over the years and have to say this trip was a disappointment in many ways. It is looking "tired" and needs money spent on decor and refurbishment. I waited 20 minutes for my order to be taken in the bistro and another 15 minutes before it was served. At breakfast although I said good morning to the waitress, I was not acknowledged. As a diabetic it is important that milk jugs are labelled as being skimmed, or not. In hotels I stay at there are usually a bowl of fruit to choose from which given my dietary restrictions is important. I had bacon, (tough and, inedible)obviously not freshly cooked, Mushrooms,(minute portion) and a poached egg, the only thing on the plate that was hot. Overall my stay was a disappointment and standards have obviously slipped in what used to be a very good hotel.

This was our second visit to the Dryburgh Abbey hotel the food, staff and setting is excellent. We took two dogs and they were given just as much of a welcome as we were. The food in both the bar and restaurant were very good a wonderful choice of locally sourced produce.I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends.
The only niggle was our room was quite small and the en-suite needed an up grade but this wouldn't stop me staying there again.
